Introduction
Single sign-on (SSO) allows staff to sign in to Pupil Progress using their existing Google or Microsoft account instead of a separate Pupil Progress password.
Any staff member can enable SSO for their own account. School Admins can also make SSO mandatory for all staff at their school.
Mandatory SSO helps schools manage account access centrally. For example, when a member of staff leaves and their school Google or Microsoft account is deactivated, they will no longer be able to use that account to access Pupil Progress.
This guide explains how to enable SSO for your own account, make SSO mandatory for school staff and configure SSO at Trust level.
Enable SSO for your own account
Any staff member can enable Google or Microsoft SSO for their own Pupil Progress account.
Select Google or Microsoft, depending on the account you want to use.
Sign in with your Google or Microsoft details.
Follow the prompts to confirm that you want to merge your accounts.
Once your accounts are linked, you must use SSO each time you sign in to Pupil Progress. You will no longer be able to sign in using your Pupil Progress password.
đĄ Note: Enabling SSO for your own account does not make SSO mandatory for other staff at your school.
Enable mandatory SSO login for all school staff
You must be a School Admin to make SSO mandatory across your school.
Go to My School > Staff.
Select the SSO Configuration tab.
Choose Google or Microsoft, depending on the SSO provider used by your school.
Review the confirmation information.
Type I acknowledge into the confirmation box.
Click Save.
Once mandatory SSO is enabled, all staff members will be required to link their Pupil Progress account to the selected SSO provider.
What happens after mandatory SSO is enabled?
After you enable mandatory SSO:
Staff receive an email advising them of the change.
The next time staff sign in, they will be prompted to link their Pupil Progress account to their Google or Microsoft account.
Staff will be unable to access their Pupil Progress data until they complete the SSO linking process.
Once linked, staff must use SSO for future sign-ins and cannot use their Pupil Progress password.
đ Team Tip: Before enabling mandatory SSO, make sure staff know which Google or Microsoft account they should use. This can help avoid access issues when they are prompted to link their accounts.
Enable mandatory SSO login for a Trust
Trust users can also configure SSO from the Trust Dashboard.
From the Trust Dashboard, go to Users > SSO Configuration.
Select the required SSO provider.
Configure SSO for the Trust account as required.
Choose whether to enable mandatory SSO for specific schools or all schools within the Trust.
Confirm and save your changes.
Once enabled, the same SSO login requirements apply to affected users and schools.
