It's simple to import Minimum Target Grades (MTGs) for each year group to Pupil Progress using our XLS template. Once you upload the completed template, you can then map each subject's grades to the correct trackers. MTGs will show in trackers immediately following a manual import.

This article is a step-by-step guide to manually importing MTGs.

Manual Import of MTGs

To manually import MTGs by spreadsheet upload:

  1. Hover over My School in the top menu and select Import MTG.

  2. Select the Year Group you want to import MTGs for.

  3. Select DOWNLOAD XLS TEMPLATE and open the file from your downloads folder.

  4. Follow the instructions highlighted in yellow for completing the template. This includes inputting the following details:

    • Unique Pupil Numbers (UPNs) (required)

    • First names (optional)

    • Surnames (optional)

    • Subject names in each column under Subjects (required)

    • Minimum Target Grades for each student under each relevant subject (required)

❗ Ensure you don't delete the instructions box as the template cannot be uploaded without this.

  5. Return to Pupil Progress and select UPLOAD YOUR FILE, then choose the completed template.

If your file has been formatted and uploaded correctly, the file name will appear to the right of UPLOAD YOUR FILE and you can move on to Step 8 below.

Alternatively, if there are errors in your file, a pop-up will appear with the message The file can't be uploaded.

  6. In the case of an error, select DOWNLOAD REVIEW FILE to view a copy of your file with all errors highlighted in red.

  7. Correct the errors in the original file, then return to Pupil Progress and re-upload the corrected file using UPLOAD YOUR FILE.

  8. Select the Subject Name dropdown below each tracker and choose the column (as it appears in your file) of target grades you want to add to the tracker.

  9. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select ADD MTGS TO YOUR TRACKERS to confirm the upload.

  10. MTGs will display immediately for students in the relevant trackers.

πŸ’‘ Additional notes:

  • You can add the same MTG for multiple trackers by selecting the same subject name.

  • If students already have MTGs in a tracker, manually importing MTGs for the same tracker will overwrite them.

  • If a student is not listed in a tracker you're uploading a target grade for, the grade will not be uploaded.

Re-importing MTGs

Once you've imported MTGs for a subject for the first time, you'll notice a Last Sync date appear - this is the time that MTGs were last imported manually. This is useful to be aware of if you need to import MTGs again.
