Navigate your tiered trackers
Assign students to a tier
Tiered subjects have two versions of the tracker; the Foundation and Higher tier. Students will be assigned a tier group once you have enabled tiers on your tracker.
Once you're ready to start using tiers, follow the steps in the article below π
Add Customised Assessments to both tiers
Don't know which tier students will eventually take? You can collect data that will transfer between tiers, using Customised Assessments added to both tiers:
Click Add New Assessment from the left menu, and select Customised Assessment.
Choose the unit to add your assessment to.
Fill in a name, and your Single Mark or Question Level Analysis preferences.
Choose to set Custom Grade Boundaries and input your raw mark grade boundaries.
Tick which classes to add the assessment to, and set it as visible on both F and H tiers.
Finally, click Save and Collapse and then Create Assessments.
π‘ The raw marks you input for the assessment will be converted to a scaled mark that contributes an equivalent amount to the unit and overall total marks for the tier the student is on.
We recommend adding Customised Assessments to both tiers, even if it has questions for just one tier. By doing so, students who switch tiers will take their assessment data with them.
Additionally, if you've used Custom Grade Boundaries, the marks will automatically scale to give an equivalent grade when a student switches tier.
Capped grades explained
An individual Customised Assessment may have grade boundaries that span grades 1-9 if Custom Grade Boundaries have been used. The tracker then awards the student a grade for the Customised Assessment based on those boundaries
However, if the student is on the Foundation tier and they achieve a Grade 7 in the assessment, this will be capped at a unit and course level at a Grade 5. This is because the student cannot achieve a 7 whilst they are in the Foundation tier.
Note: This highlights that they should be considered for moving up to Higher tier.
Likewise, if a student is on Higher tier and achieves a Grade 2 in a Customised Assessment with Custom Grade Boundaries, they will be marked as a U for the unit and course, as they have not met the required lowest grade for the tier - indicating they should be moved to a lower tier.
Analysis of tiered subjects
Analysis spans across both tiers for the subject. However, it only includes the data for a student based on the tier they have been set to.
For example:
If a student had data on Foundation, then switches to Higher, only the Higher data and grades will be used within Analysis.
In the Grades Summary, you'll see which tier the student is on by the H/ F symbol next to their grade.
Reports for tiered subjects
Students will only receive one report based on the tier they currently display on the tracker.
The report will only contain data and information from the tier they are on, and any data hidden on the other tier will be hidden on the report.
π‘ If you wish to see a report for a different tier that the student has previously been on, you'll need to switch their tier, download their report and then switch them back.
