This article explains how you can enable tiers on your GCSE tracker (Maths, MFL, Science). In order to follow the steps in this article, your account must have either School Admin or Subject Leader permissions for the relevant subject area.

Untiered Tracker

When you first add a GCSE Maths, MFL or Science tracker to your school's account, it will by default be set to not use tiers. This is why the button to open the tracker reads 'Live Tracking', as opposed to 'Higher' or 'Foundation'.

Your tracker will utilise a unified grade boundary series, meaning that students will be able to achieve any grade within the full range of 9-1 (9-9 - 1-1 in Combined Science). This will help to simplify your tracking and monitoring process for when you are unsure as to which tier students will be entered onto, such as when a class is early on in Y10.

Whilst the tracker remains untiered, you will not be able to add Published Assessments for any class. This is due to these papers not utilising the full grade range, as your tracker currently does. However, you are able to add a Customised or Copied Published Assessment, where you can then set your own Custom Grade Boundaries to apply to your untiered tracker.

Enabling Tiers

Whenever you're ready, you can enable tiers on your tracker - many Pupil Progress use may opt to enable tiers immediately after the trackers are created. Please note, that when enabling tiers, you must do so for the whole year group of that specification. It's not possible to enable tiers for one class only, if there are more in that year group on the same course.

However, to do this, simply visit any class tracker (or the Year Group Overview), open the Tools menu from the left hand side, and select 'Start Using Tiers'.

You'll then see a warning message to confirm the changes, and make you aware that once activated, it cannot be disabled.

Once Confirmed, you'll see the option to switch students tier on an individual basis via the drop downs. After you have made all your amendments, select 'Save Changes' and now you'll see the ability to switch between Higher and Foundation within your class tracker.

If you need to make any changes to your tier groups at a later data, just open your Tools menu again, and go to 'Move Students' Tier'.
