Introduction
School Admins can upload actual GCSE or A-Level results into Pupil Progress using the Flexi Grade and Grade Import features.
Once uploaded, you can use the Grade Summary to compare actual exam results with existing grade types, such as Target/Predicted Grades (TPG), Average Unit Grades (AUG), previous Flexi Grades or earlier snapshot data.
This is useful for Data Managers and Senior Leaders who want to review the accuracy of previous predictions and analyse the difference between predicted and actual results.
You need School Admin permissions to complete this process.
š” Note: If you already use Flexi Grades for mock or PPE results, take a snapshot before uploading actual results. The import will overwrite the existing live Flexi Grade values.
Prepare your Flexi Grade for actual exam results
If your school already has Flexi Grade data that you want to keep, take a snapshot before making any changes.
Steps
Take a snapshot of your existing Flexi Grade data.
Clear the existing Flexi Grade values if required.
Go to My School > Flexi Grade.
Rename the Flexi Grade to something that clearly identifies the new data, such as Actual Exam Result.
If your school does not currently have Flexi Grades enabled, enable the feature instead.
Your Flexi Grade is now ready for your actual GCSE or A-Level results.
š” Note: Taking a snapshot preserves your previous Flexi Grade data, allowing you to compare it with your actual results later.
Upload your actual GCSE or A-Level results
Use the Grade Import tool to upload results for multiple pupils and subjects at once.
Steps
Go to My School > Grade Import > Flexi Grade.
Select the correct year group and academic year.
Select the blue button to download the Grade Import template.
Open the Excel template and read the instructions included in the file.
Complete the spreadsheet with the required pupil, subject and actual result data. Make sure each grade is entered against the correct pupil and subject.
Save the completed file.
Return to the Grade Import page and select Upload Your File.
Pupil Progress will check the file and highlight any issues that need resolving before you continue.
Map your actual results to qualifications
After uploading the file, map the subject columns in your spreadsheet to the corresponding qualifications in Pupil Progress.
Steps
Review each subject from your uploaded spreadsheet.
Select the corresponding Pupil Progress qualification for each subject you want to import.
Check that all required subjects have been mapped correctly.
Select Add Flexi Grades to Your Trackers at the bottom of the page.
Compare actual results with predicted grades
Once your actual exam results are available in Pupil Progress, use the Grade Summary to compare them with another grade type.
For example, you could compare actual results with:
Target/Predicted Grades (TPG)
Average Unit Grades (AUG)
Previous Flexi Grade data
Flexi Grades captured at an earlier snapshot
Steps
Open the Grade Summary.
Select Snapshot > Compare at the top of the page.
Set Source 1 to your actual result data.
Set Source 2 to the Pupil Progress grade type or snapshot you want to compare against.
Review the comparison.
For each pupil, the value in the main cell shows the actual grade achieved. The box above shows the difference between the two grades, allowing you to see how close the earlier prediction or assessment was to the final result.
This can help Senior Leaders and Data Managers evaluate prediction accuracy and identify patterns across pupils, subjects or cohorts.
How can I prevent actual results from being overwritten?
Take a snapshot after uploading your actual results. A snapshot preserves the data at that point in time, so it remains available even if the live Flexi Grade values are changed later. You can then clear the live Flexi Grade values if required.
When you want to analyse the results again, select the relevant snapshot rather than Live Tracking.
Can I compare mock or PPE results with actual grades?
Yes. If you previously used Flexi Grades for mock or PPE results and took a snapshot, you can compare that snapshot with your actual results.
š” Note: The Grade Type selector uses the latest name given to the Flexi Grade. For example, if you rename your Flexi Grade from PPE Result to Actual Exam Result, older snapshots may also display Actual Exam Result as the Grade Type name.
The underlying snapshot data has not changed. Select the appropriate snapshot points to compare the Flexi Grade values captured during the mock or PPE series with those captured for the actual results.
š Team Tip: Take a clearly named snapshot before replacing mock or PPE Flexi Grades, and another after uploading actual results. This makes it easier to identify the correct data points when carrying out post-results analysis.
