Why do trackers use a mark-based system for tracking attainment?
Tracking progress with marks has many benefits:
It produces the most accurate and actionable data for your students.
It means that both staff and students are clear as to where their grades are coming from, and where to direct focus in order to improve.
Entering marks rather than grades also allows for staff to take greater accountability over their classes' celebrations and challenges.
Enter grades directly into a GCSE tracker
We understand that in some circumstances, experienced teachers who have a comprehensive knowledge of the mark scheme may prefer to only enter a grade, particularly in subjects with a substantial practical element like Art or Design & Technology.
To enter grades directly into your tracker:
Open Live Tracking for a class and check the total marks available for the relevant assessment.
Next, click Add New Assessment from the left menu and select Customised Assessment. Under data entry, set the single mark max value to the same maximum number of marks available in the actual exam or practical assessment.
Once you've added the single mark Customised Assessment, you can use the tracker's Grade Boundaries for guidance when inputting grades. To view these, simply open Tools and select Change (under Grade Boundaries).
Return to the tracker and enter the mark that aligns with the grade that you're wanting to input.
