The Target Grids allow you to see exactly how many marks away from the next grades your students are, which in turn can help you strategise your teaching efficiently. You'll be able to quickly see which topics to revise in class for students to achieve higher marks and higher grades.

On the far right of your tracker, you'll find two grids, respectively called

  • Target Grid: Current Grade

  • Target Grid: Average Unit Grade

These grids provide you with an overall picture of how many marks away students are from the grades above the one they've currently reached. The two grids work respectively from the Current Grade and Average Unit Grade columns in the Summary area.

For instance, the first student in the class list has currently reached a Current Grade of 3 and is only 1 mark away from a 4, as the Target Grid: Current Grade shows.

However, their Average Unit Grade is already a 4 and the Target Grid: Average Unit Grade is highlighting that they are only 3 marks away from a 5.

Why do Current Grade and Average Unit Grade not match?

The Current Grade is representative of the grade that your student would get if they were to sit the exam tomorrow. This takes into consideration every mark that has been entered so far across the different units, so it'll likely be lower than their expected grades until they reach the end of the course and they have grades for all units necessary to pass.

The Average Unit Grade is a better measure of students' progress during a course as it indicates the grade the student is likely to get at the end of the course. It gives a score based on the marks they have achieved in the units so far and scales it up, as if they got the same score in the other units too, and gives a grade based on that.

Ideally, by the end of the course your students' Current Grades and Average Unit Grades should match.
